Workshops and Presentations for Adults

If you purchase and wear clothing, you are an active participant in the fashion industry. Unfortunately, with the vast amount of misleading information out there, it can be difficult to navigate the truth and make choices that align with our values.

We’ve created a range of workshops that help clear up some of the confusion around the problems within the fashion industry and how we can move forward by demanding change on the part of governments and brands, as well as through individual action.

Our workshops always involve active participation and discussion, which is why they are perfect for team building, groups, and events, and are available in different formats. They are geared towards everyone - people who work in the field of sustainability, or those who are completely new to the concept and want to have a better understanding of the role of sustainability in the clothing we wear.

The Future of Fashion: Presentation and Discussion

An engaging and interactive 45 minute presentation on the obstacles facing the fashion industry in shifting towards sustainable solutions. In addition, we provide some examples of current innovations on the part of governments, brands, and consumers that showcase possible steps in the right direction. We also include a takeaway activity to promote further reflection on the way we consume and interact with fashion!

After this presentation, participants will have a better understanding of:

  • Value chain transparency and greenwashing marketing

  • Labour rights and regulations

  • Overproduction and overconsumption patterns

  • Textile waste recycling and effects on local economies

    Available both in-person and online.

What people are saying about the Future of Fashion Workshop & Discussion:

“ The Adore! Presentation and Discussion was an eye-opening and inspiring experience. It was the perfect way to introduce the complexities of the fashion world in an understandable and fun format. All the participants learned something new, and it was great to see more conversations develop during our clothing swap part of the event. ”

Tanisha Keil, Head of Strategic Philanthropy at Kinder

This three part workshop series dives deeper into three key topics in the field of sustainable fashion, for people who are interested in gaining a better understanding about what it means to make better choices when buying clothing and how to be active participants in the sustainable fashion movement.

The workshops can be purchased as a bundle or individually. Each workshop is around two hours and consists of a presentation and discussion, followed by a hands-on activity pertaining to the theme.

Unpacking Responsible Fashion: A Workshop Series

Available in person only, maximum 15 people per group.

Materials

Many different raw materials are used in the production of each garment that we wear, and all of these materials have various implications for our bodies, the people who produce them, and the planet.

In the first workshop of the series, we will go through examples of the most common fibres and materials that make up our clothing to have a better understanding of their social and environmental impact.

We will also elaborate on the pros and cons of organic, recycled, and innovative materials to help us make informed choices about what kinds of materials we want to wear.

Labour

The fashion industry employs millions of people from around the world, from cotton farmer to garment worker. With the outsourcing of production, we are often left very disconnected from the hands that make our clothes. Who are these people and what are their realities?

The second workshop in the series sheds light on the current social disparities within the industry, the conditions that led us here, and important changes on the part of governments and brands to address these issues.

Waste

An estimated 92 million tons of textile waste is created annually by the fashion industry, and we are buying more clothes than ever before. This unprecedented amount of waste bears the question - what actually happens to our clothing when we are done wearing it, and how does this impact our environment?

The final workshop of the series goes deeper into clothing and textile disposal. We examine a few case studies of the impacts of waste and discuss the best way we can extend the life of the clothing we wear.
